READ TO ME from... A HISTORY OF THE CETACEAN AMERICAN DIASPORA

Thank you to Jenna Lê for giving gracious permission to read her work here. What trust!! Thank you!! And thank you to Marisa Keller for being cool with me reading her Dark Is Rising comment.

A Minnesota-born daughter of Vietnam War refugees, Jenna earned her B.A. in mathematics before obtaining her M.D. She lives and works as a physician and educator in the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire.

I love this fierce collection of poems. Whales become immigrants, daughters test mothers, language and food are weapons and maps. It’s one to keep bedside.

Buy this book here . And come with me when I finally get to see Jenna Lê read!

What did you love?

What was it like to listen to a poem with Gateless ears?

What caught you? What pinged a feeling in you, and you aren’t sure why?

What sounds did you hear? What image popped in your mind, or developed later in your memory like a Polaroid?

Tell us what you loved.

Gus sends his regards. He likes some poetry. He will tell you what when he feels like it.
